How to check your Google ranking (free, in 2 minutes)

Where does your business actually show up on Google? Here's a free, honest way to check your own ranking — plus a step-by-step checklist to track it over time.

Check your Google ranking

Type the search a customer would use, add your town, and we'll open Google with it ready to go. Then follow the steps below to read your rank honestly.

  1. 1Search for the exact phrase a customer would type — your service + your town, e.g. 'plumber West Auckland'.
  2. 2Use a private/incognito window so Google doesn't tailor results to your history.
  3. 3Ignore the top 3 'Sponsored' ads — those are paid, not your organic rank.
  4. 4Count where your business appears on page 1. Not there? Check page 2 and 3.
  5. 5Look for the Google map pack (the 3 listings with pins) — that's driven by your Google Business Profile.
  6. 6Repeat the same search once a week and jot down your position to see if you're climbing.

We can't see your rank from here — only Google can. But once you know where you sit, we can tell you exactly what to do to climb.

Stuck on page 2 or 3?

That's the most common spot to be stuck — and exactly what we fix. We climb rankings for Kiwi businesses every week with ongoing SEO on one simple monthly plan.
