How to show up on Google without paying a fortune
You don't need a massive ad budget to get found. There are 4 simple things every Kiwi business can do this week — and most of them are free.

Google is not a slot machine. You don't have to shovel money into it and pray. There are free things — genuinely free, not 'free*' — that move you up the list. Most Kiwi businesses just haven't done them, because nobody told them they exist.
Here are four. You could knock them all out before smoko.
1. Claim your Google Business Profile
This is the map. The little pin. The box on the right when someone searches your name. It's free, it's powerful, and half of you haven't claimed it. Claim it, fill it in, add photos, add your hours. Done. You're already more findable than the competitor who didn't bother.
2. Say what you do, where you do it
Google Ranking Checker
Find out where you actually rank right now — free, no sign-up, 2 minutes.
Try it now — free, no sign-upGoogle isn't psychic. If your website says 'quality solutions for discerning clients' it has no idea what you sell. Say the actual words your customers would type: 'plumber in West Auckland', 'wedding cake Tauranga', 'mobile dog grooming Wellington'. Plain English wins. Always.
3. Get a few real reviews
Not fake ones. Real ones, from real customers, with a polite 'would you mind?' after a job well done. Reviews are trust signals — for Google and for the nervous human reading them. Five good reviews will out-punch a thousand dollars of ads.
4. Make sure your site actually works on a phone
"I stopped dreading Monday mornings. The auto-replies and booking system mean my phone isn't a hostage anymore."
Lisa R.
Salon owner, Tauranga
Most of your customers are searching on a phone, with one thumb, while waiting for a coffee. If your site is a pinch-and-zoom nightmare, they leave. Google notices, and down you go. A site that works on mobile is now a prerequisite, not a nice-to-have.
If your site fails that last test, our mobile-friendly explainer is worth a read next.
Rather just have us do this?
This is exactly what our monthly plans cover — one simple fee, no big upfront cost, and a team that gets it done.
That's the lot. Four things, mostly free, all doable this week. Or — and you knew this was coming — we can just do them for you. We do this every day. It's sort of our whole thing.
